How to Make Fluffy Sourdough Pancakes

These fluffy and delicious sourdough pancakes that I’m confident will become a new staple in your home. They are soft and fluffy and thanks to the sourdough loaded with flavor and nutrition.

As I slowly switch recipes to the healthier sourdough options this sourdough pancake recipe is one that my kids will eat the whole batch of in one sitting because they are so good.

You can use your sourdough discard from when you are starting your sourdough starter for this recipe.

Sourdough Pancake Ingredients

  • 2 cups Flour
  • 2 tsp. Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp. Baking Soda
  • 2 tbsp. Raw Sugar
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 1 cup Sourdough Starter
  • 1 1/2 cups Milk
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 tbsp. Canola Oil

Tools

  • Pancake Griddle or Cast Iron Skillet
  • Pancake Turner
  • Mixing Bowl and Whisk
  • Measuring Cups and Spoons

Tips for Making Sourdough Pancakes

  • Make sure your cast iron skillet or griddle is hot before adding the batter.
  • The popped bubbles on the surface let you know that the pancakes are ready to be flipped.
  • Only flip the pancakes once.

How to Make Sourdough Pancakes

  1. In a large bowl mix together dry ingredients.
  2. Add sourdough starter, milk, egg, and oil. Mix until well combined.
  3. Grease and heat your cast iron skillet or griddle.
  4. Once greased and heat through pour a 1/2 cup of pancake batter on the cast iron skillet or griddle. Cook until the pancakes start bubbling on top, then flip.
  5. Cook until the pancake is cooked through usually about 1-2 minutes.
  6. Serve warm with syrup or honey or freeze for later.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Sugar Raw
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 cup Sourdough Starter
  • 1 1/2 cups Milk
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 tbsp Canola Oil

Instructions

  • In a large bowl mix together dry ingredients.
  • Add sourdough starter, milk, egg, and oil. Mix until well combined.
  • Grease and heat a cast iron skillet or griddle.
  • Once greased and heated through pour 1/2 cup of pancake batter on the cast iron skillet or griddle. Cook until the pancakes start bubbling on the top, then flip.
  • Cook until the pancake is cooked through. Usually 1-2 mintues.
  • Serve warm with syrup or honey.

Freezing Pancakes for Later

  • Let your pancakes cool and flash freeze them flat or one layer on a cookie sheet and then place them in a freezer safe storage container.
  • Freeze them stacked with wax paper or parchment paper in between to prevent sticking.
  • To heat them place them in the oven, microwave, or toaster.
